Stormwater Management System Inspections

‘Reminder of Operation and Maintenance Inspection’ Letter

Have you received a ‘Reminder of Operation and Maintenance Inspection’ letter from Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD)? If so, it is time for you to report on the status of your stormwater management system per the conditions of your issued SWFWMD permit.

Stormwater Management System Inspection

Enstrom Engineering has a Professional Engineer on staff that is qualified to inspect and report on the operation and maintenance condition of your stormwater management system. Please see the details of the Stormwater Management System Inspection service, below.

How it Works

Whether you received a letter requesting inspection or an inquiry from our staff, the following process is how we get your stormwater management system inspected.

Enstrom Engineering will:

  1. Coordinate a lump sum fee and date of inspection for the Client’s system.

  2. Provide a digital contract for the Client to sign with the agreed upon fee and date.

  3. Visit the site in person and visually inspect the stormwater management system.

  4. Document the condition of the system with an ‘O&M Inspection Report’, and provide to the Client.

  5. Fill out the ‘Statement of Inspection for Proper Operation and Maintenance’ form as applicable, and provide to the Client.

  6. Invoice the Client for the agreed upon lump sum fee and collect payment.

  7. Sign the ‘Statement of Inspection for Proper Operation and Maintenance’ form and submit to SWFWMD.

Deliverables

The details for each of the deliverables are listed below:

O&M Inspection Report

  • Document created by Enstrom Engineering that is for the Client’s internal use only and is not to be submitted to SWFWMD.

  • Contains a summary of the inspection findings, condition of inspected items, recommended maintenance, and photographs of inspected items.

Statement of Inspection for Proper Operation and Maintenance Form

  • SWFWMD official form requiring signature by licensed professional that satisfies the requirements of the ‘Reminder of Operation and Maintenance Inspection’ letter.

  • Certifies the stormwater management system is operating and is being maintained in accordance with SWFWMD permitted conditions.

The process above is specifically for Southwest Florida Water Management District. If you’ve received a request for inspection from a different Water Management District, City, or County, please contact us and we will provide an alternative process for that specific agency.

Why get your stormwater management system inspected?

Aside from staying on top of this critical piece of infrastructure that collects runoff, provides flood control, and improves water quality, having your stormwater management system routinely inspected a requirement your Water Management District issued permit conditions.

Per the conditions of your Water Management District issued permit, stormwater management systems are required to be inspected every 2 to 5 years. Per SWFWMD, failure to submit the required permit condition information is a violation of the permit and Water Management District rules. If the permit condition information is not submitted, the matter may be referred to the District’s Office of General Counsel for further enforcement action, which may include monetary penalties.
